Samson is not a social type but has tough person personality and more sounded like an western outlaw with his deep voice and grouchy. Possibly pre-war like.

Samson came to to hedge to retire from his flock. But willing to become the toughest in the hedge

Judging by the objects he needed. Samson is possibly a carpenter and story teller. Although despite as an endangered species like Jack and Sylvia. His role did not affect the gameplay.
